This cake may be so-called 'chokudai-ka (lit. the theme chosen by the Emperor-cakes)’, which is 'named after’ the theme for ('tanka’ poems composed for and presented in) the annual Ceremony of the Utakai Hajime (Imperial New Year’s Poetry Reading). The theme for this year’s Ceremony is “hikari (light)”, and other Japanese expressions related to it.
